Marina
In the next door marina “Marina Makkum”, you’ll be amazed by the many boats and yachts ready to set off to explore the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea.
The marina offers plenty of play facilities and a small (unheated) outdoor swimming pool, which campsite guests can use for free.
Nature reserves
The campsite is surrounded by four unique nature reserves:
- The small nature area with dog-friendly beaches, lovely paved walking and jogging paths around the water, idyllic little bridges and a fun lookout tower.
- The Zuidwaard, an official nature reserve with the characteristic wide-open Frisian landscape and a rich variety of plant and animal species.
- The Noordwaard, best discovered with binoculars from the pier, as this island is reserved for wildlife and plants only.
- The IJsselmeer – sometimes we forget that this water playground is also a stunning nature reserve in its own right.
Boat rental
Ready to explore the Frisian waters by boat? At Zuidwaard Watersport, you can hire a luxury sloop, a water bike or a sturdy motorboat. For most boats, no licence is required.
Seal spotting trip
Step aboard De Seestern and head out onto the Wadden Sea in search of its lazy sunbathers – the seals!
