What makes our campsite special is, of course, the lovely large sandy beach right on our doorstep! Stroll along the lively boulevard with its shops, sunny terraces and delicious eateries.
Whether you want to relax in the sun, build sandcastles with the children, get active in the water or enjoy the fresh air during a walk on the beach, you can do it all here!
In the evening? Then the horizon treats you to a sunset that will leave you speechless.
Now that's a real holiday!
From the camping area, you can walk straight onto the sand with your bare feet. You can choose between two beaches, each about 400 metres wide, separated by the “new pier” where you have a beautiful view of the IJsselmeer.
The northern beach is ideal for families with children, with play facilities and toilets nearby. Would you prefer a little more peace and quiet? Then the southern beach is the place for you.
And for a little exploration, take a walk along the “old pier”. Along the way, you will come across small hidden beaches and at the end, a beautiful view of the lock to the North Sea awaits you.
Do you love water? Then you've come to the right place! Windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, kitesurfing, foiling, sailing and boating: you can do it all on the IJsselmeer.
There are several nice eateries and terraces on the boulevard with a view of the water. Enjoy the sunset with a cocktail in your hand, for example.
Along the boulevard, there are two little shops perfect for a spot of “sneupen” – that’s what we call the mix of strolling and browsing here in Friesland. At Beach Store Visser and Tan, you’ll find the latest beach fashion and accessories. Funsport Makkum has everything for surfing and watersports, plus the perfect matching outfit.
For an active day on the water, you can book a surfing lesson at one of the two surf schools or hire surfing equipment, a stand-up paddleboard or a catamaran. The surf schools Surf n Sail and Funsport will be happy to help you get started for an unforgettable day on the water!
Beach Yoga: relax and exercise with a view of the sea. Clear your mind, and your hair... well, that has a mind of its own. During the summer holidays, we organise Beach Yoga twice a week. Naturally, it's free for our campsite guests.
The (sweet) water at Makkum beach is nice and shallow: the first few hundred metres are 30 cm to 1 metre deep. Super safe for little ones and perfect for beginner watersports enthusiasts. It’s easy to hop onto your surfboard or SUP!
And if you're looking to cool off in the water on a hot day, you can paddle around without being immediately engulfed by waves.
Directly from the campsite, you can take a large tour boat on a seal watching trip across the Wadden Sea. The lock between the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea is a 15-minute boat ride from the campsite.
