Fishing on and around the campsite
Is your ultimate holiday feeling casting a line and forgetting the world for a while? Then you’re in the right place at De Holle Poarte. In the campsite’s waterways, you’ll find grass carp and all kinds of whitefish. Pick a sunny spot, set up your chair on the grass and we wish you a great catch. Or even better: rent a chalet with a terrace by the water. Rod within reach and a refreshing drink on the table. Perfect, isn’t it?
On our waterways, you can fish hassle-free – no permit needed!
Fancy a fishing adventure just outside the campsite? We’re in Friesland, so there’s water everywhere. On Lake IJssel, in the nature reserve and along the many canals in and around Makkum, pike and perch steal the show. For these spots, you do need a fishing permit. You can easily arrange a VISpas or weekly permit at Izenga fishing shop in Makkum.

Important: Catch and Release Policy
For the Dutch, it’s common knowledge – but it’s just as important for all our international guests to know: every fish you catch goes back into the water alive and with respect.

Boat ramp(s)
Brought your own boat? Then you can use our boat ramp free of charge. Just a simple sandy track, a splash, and off you go – straight onto the IJsselmeer!
For the waterways around Makkum, we recommend the free boat ramp on Hemmensweg. It saves you waiting time at the lock and the lock fees.
Rent a fishing boat
Fancy hiring a fishing boat for the day? You can! At Zuidwaard Watersport, they have a range of boats available for hire. They offer a rental location for the inland waters in Makkum and another right next to the campsite for the IJsselmeer.
